I use smart autoresponders every day of the year to boost sales on our other websites.
Since having tried them out I now wouldn’t be without them. But I’m getting ahead of myself. What is a smart autoresponder?
An autoresponder is a piece of software which, well, automatically responds to emails.
For example, any email sent to a certain address will receive an instant prewritten reply such as "Thanks for emailing us… We’ll reply as soon as we possibly can".
However, here’s the magic. Firstly, many of these services (like the one I use) are sequential autoresponders – they can send out a sequence of emails. Somebody emails once, and gets a string of messages at set points in the future.
One way we use this is to deliver our training course to affiliates. They receive one part a week until they’ve received the whole course – and we don’t have to lift a finger.
Secondly, to explain the "smart" part of the description, the software is capable of personalising the response. So rather than "Dear Enquirer, Thanks for your email" you get "Dear Tony, Thanks for your email on the 3rd of December…" As you can see it’s a lot more professional.
What’s more, of course, is that all of these personalised emails are sent out without us lifting a finger. If you email Corey Rudl for example (author of the Number 1 best selling internet marketing course for three years running) you automatically get a reply to say he’s received your message and will respond as soon as possible. I’ll tell you, it makes him look very customer orientated.
